Life After People

Life After People

This morning I was reminded of a special I watched once on the Discovery Channel, I think. It was called Life After People. The premise of the show was simple. What would happen to earth should people humans suddenly disappear. How would nature start to reclaim its dominance without the meddling of man?

The answer can be found at the former Expo site just across the Huangpu River. In just a few short years after the world descended on Shanghai in 2010, to see the latest in global achievement, the massive expo site is a dilapidated and rusted husk set amidst a welcoming riverside park. It’s beautiful in its eeriness. Both a testament to human ingenuity and the perils of neglect.
