Hotel VIC on the Harbour
The VIC has quickly become my go-to hotel on Hong Kong Island.
It’s pretty much my platonic ideal of a business hotel. Wonderfully modern but also effortlessly casual. There’s a rooftop restaurant and bar called Cruise with dazzling views. Yet you feel perfectly comfortable there in a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. There’s absolutely no pretension to this place.
The rooms are smallish, but wonderfully functional. Everywhere you turn there’s a USB port. And the large windows afford expansive views across the bay toward Kowloon. The small outdoor pool offers similar views. The gym as well. The lobby floor restaurant, The Farmhouse, offers a very high-quality buffet and its adjunct cafe lets you grab a coffee to go on your way just down the street to catch the North Point metro.
Affordably priced. Conveniently located if you’re not afraid of the subway (or racking up a few taxi fares to Central). Extremely nice but kinda homey. I’m really fond of this place.
It’s also soon to become a World of Hyatt property so if you’re a points guy, there’s that too.
